I’m saying “Hey Vanilla, color it up!” because I am noticing a whole sector of pale and plain, singular colors being used in Marketing agency websites.
It’s as if every one is suddenly terrified of color. It’s an over-emphasis on whitespace to make a sale. It’s ugly.
I think color combinations like red and black, or orange and lime green are beautiful and add a bit of artistic flair to otherwise drab, mundane spaces. My favorite color combination is silver and black with a splash of gold. Mmmm…
In everything I do I look for eye appeal. I’m choosy about the color of products I buy. I seek flair and fun. I live for it.
I admit that I’m judgemental about being too vanilla. If you sacrifice spice you’re losing flavor.
Visit archive.org and see how popular it used to be to use a pale yellow background in boxes of text; Now it’s pastel blues and plain whitespace. Fiverr, com and facebook and craigslist O MY! Can you be any more colorless than craigslist.org?
These are great sites and I visit them often, but not for their eye appeal. I want to see more color in my sites, even if it means I don’t make a sale or earn a subscriber.
Then again, I am a contrarian. What’s popular in website color choice doesn’t appeal to me, so enjoy with me my more colorful sites.
